Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying hair, skin and nails. It is a three-year program with 1250 hours of study. Students must apply in ninth grade for acceptance into the program. Successful completion of hours prepares graduates for the PA State Board Exam and employment at entry-level jobs.

Areas of Instruction:

After 300 hours, students begin practicing their skills on the paying public. From September through early May, a clinic is available for the public who pays for cost of materials to have the services done. Students learn basics through advanced techniques.

Salary Information:

There is “Zero unemployment” in the industry. Average salon income including tips averages about $18.50 per hour. Salon owners averaged $22.03 per hour. Salaries earned are based on experience, abilities, quality of work, enthusiasm, and personality.

Career Information:

Cosmetologists can be self-employed or work for private or chain beauty salons throughout the country. Additionally, they can work as managers, teachers, salespersons, manicurists, estheticians, make-up artists, funeral home hairdressers, supply representatives, platform stylists, assistants, beauty magazine writers, or day spa owners.

What is Cosmetology?

The Cosmetology course at CCCTC is a three year, 1250 hour course of study.  Students learn all the basics of Cosmetology including, but not limited to:
