Precision Machine Technology

Competency based program that trains students to operate standard industrial machine and metal working tools in the industry. Students are introduced to setup, operation, and preventative maintenance on metal working machines (milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, etc.) They learn to use and understand measuring tools, gauges, instruments, blueprints, shop mathematics and all aspects of metal working including basic metallurgy, precision work and quality control. Also covered is set-up and programming for CNC machines, and how to utilize a CAD/CAM system such as MasterCAM. Included in tuition is an opportunity to earn a minimum of four National Institute of Metalworking Skills Certifications (NIMS) and a toolbox with entry level tools that will be yours upon completion.

What is Precision Machine Technology?

The Precision Machine course is designed to teach the student set-ups,  operations, maintenance, and repair of industrial-type metalworking machinery. The Precision Machine program at the Clearfield County  Career and  Technology Center has  a large variety of metalworking   equipment, including  lathes and milling  machines, which allows each student to receive hands-on time at the  machines. Course content includes:

Skills Needed:

Projects worked on in this program have to be measured sometimes within one-thousandths of an inch. That is about one third of the diameter of a human hair!  Students need the proper skills to be a successful  machinist.  They are:
